Bring a new dimension to your iPads

AR and 3D go to the next level

Augmented Reality (AR) and 3D for iPad can bring a whole new world of discovery to your teaching. Our friends at Using Technology Better share their top tips for harnessing this technology to enhance your classroom experiences.

1

Don’t be afraid of the technology

Digital 3D creation was once a challenging area of development that required a certain mindset and skill level from teachers and students alike. Not anymore! With easy-to-use creation tools (like Shape Creator) that you can run in your browser and export projects at the click of a button, anyone can jump on board. Apps like Procreate and Reality Composer help students develop vital skills with software that is now used in a range of industries.

2

Embrace a fresh perspective

With 3D in your classroom, you can replicate the real world for more immersive learning experiences. A 2D textbook can never allow a student to study an object or space from different angles – this is the beauty of 3D. Students can control their own learning experiences and explore a subject from multiple perspectives.

3

Add another layer to learning

AR provides a medium for viewing content and gives students the ability to visualise their designs and ideas in a physical context. This gives them valuable insights into how a designed object might interact with a specific environment. The opportunities for AR application across the curriculum are endless. For example, students might create a painting or sculpture, then see how it might look displayed in a home or gallery.
