Google for Education gets a facelift
The rebrand from Google for Education to Google Workplace for Education will mean a few changes for your school. Firstly, while the platform remains free, you will now have the option to pay for an upgrade if you want more powerful security tools or increased access to an expanded range of teaching and learning tools.
Here are our top picks from the recent Google Workplace for Education Updates:
- A new marketplace for Classroom add-ons that will allow teachers to assign some of their favourite tools to students (without having to deal with extra log-ins) will be available later in the year.
- Also coming soon is the new student engagement tracker which allows teachers to see data that’s relevant to how students are interacting with Classroom (i.e. comments on posts, document submissions etc.).
- Classroom Audit Logs are on their way and will allow Admins to quickly identify any issues with Classroom as well as get greater insights into adoption and engagement rates.
- Originality Reports will help students submit their best work while making it easier for teachers to detect potential plagiarism.
- CS First integration is Google’s free introductory computer science curriculum and now integrates with Classroom – allowing teachers to import Classroom rosters into a new CS First class and students to sign in with their Google accounts.

Users can now save drafts in Google Forms giving students the option to save their entries as a draft and submit them later, which can be a game-changer for teachers setting longer tasks using Google Forms.
There will now be an option for teachers to quickly mute everyone all at once and to end meetings for all participants. This will be great for those virtual classes.
