Like many schools in the Rotorua region, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Hurungaterangi School was faced with low achievement levels from students and a disengaged community; with parents and whanau showing very little to no interest in their children’s education. Gaps in learning were evident across the school and change to help bring equality in learning was needed.
In October 2018, Nga Pumanawa e Waru and Noel Leeming, collaborated with Apple and developed a simple but cost effective solution – Device as a Service (DaaS) to provide the funding necessary. While DaaS had been around for some time, the team refined the offering with the school’s ‘need’ in mind, to deliver real value.
Through the DaaS offer, the school can now provide each student with a laptop with the right software, and teachers are trained through the Apple certified development programme.
Thanks to Noel Leeming’s Whiteglove service, which is part of the DaaS solution, all devices are delivered to the school ‘unboxed’ and ready to use in the classroom, fully configured to the school’s requirements and connected to their Wi-Fi. This saves the school time and the resources required to set up each device.
